Ingredient Notes:

Potatoes: I use Yukon Gold potatoes for mashed potatoes as I feel they give the best consistency and are great for mashing. They also have a naturally buttery flavor and a high starch content, making them perfect for the best creamy mashed potatoes.

Cream Cheese: To get that perfect consistency, I like to add cream cheese to my mashed potatoes. Many people traditionally would use milk.

How to make mashed potatoes:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook your potatoes until soft and fork-tender.
  2. Once potatoes are cooked, remove from the heat and drain the water.
  3. Put the cooked potatoes through a ricer and set aside in a bowl. Add the butter, salt, pepper, whole milk and cream cheese to the large pot over low heat. As the butter melts, stir to combine all of the ingredients together until the butter has fully melted. Turn the heat off.
  4. Add the riced or mashed potatoes back to the pot and stir to combine. Taste and season with more salt and pepper if desired. Or, add more butter or milk if you need more creaminess.

I don’t have a ricer: If you don’t have a ricer, simply use a potato masher to mash the potatoes and then add them back to the pot.

Storage: Store in the fridge in an airtight container for 3 – 5 days.
