Ingredient Notes:

Sumac: The flavor of sumac is tangy, tart, and sharp but has a bit of sweetness. It’s a great addition to so many dishes and you’ll often find it in Middle Eastern cuisine.

Zataar: Another delicious spice mixture that includes the herb Zataar along with toasted sesame seeds, dried sumac, salt, and sometimes other spices.

Capers: Capers have a lemony tang and the brininess of olives. They are salty and savory.

How to make bread dipping oil:

  1. Add the ingredients to a shallow plate or bowl (sumac, zataar, dried oregano, chili flakes, minced garlic cloves, chopped preserved lemon. capers and pinch salt and pepper).
  2. Drizzle over the honey and olive oil, give it a quick stir and garnish with basil. Serve with pieces of french bread or focaccia.

Want to make this ahead of time? Add all of the ingredients to a container except for the fresh minced basil.

Storage: Store in the fridge for up to 3 days and bring to room temperature before serving with fresh bread.

Don’t have preserved lemons? Try zest from one lemon instead!
